Jürgen Westermeier Appointed as President & Managing Director of Airbus India and South Asia, marking a significant strategic move as the company continues to deepen its engagement with the region’s rapidly growing aerospace and defense sector. Westermeier, who currently serves as Chief Procurement Officer (CPO) at Airbus and Executive Vice President of Procurement for Airbus Commercial Aircraft, brings a wealth of global leadership experience and technical expertise to his new role.
With a career at Airbus spanning five years, Westermeier has played a pivotal role in streamlining procurement strategies, driving supply chain innovation, and fostering resilient supplier networks. His leadership on the supervisory boards of Airbus Atlantic and Airbus Operations GmbH has further underlined his influence across key operational areas of the group. His new mandate will involve overseeing Airbus’s expanding footprint in India and South Asia across commercial aircraft, defense, helicopters, and space.
Prior to joining Airbus, Westermeier had a distinguished 22-year tenure at BMW Group, where he held several senior leadership roles in purchasing, cost engineering, and supplier network strategy. Notably, as Senior Vice President Purchasing and Supplier Network Asia Pacific, he was based in Beijing, China, where he led strategic procurement initiatives across the region. His international exposure and deep understanding of complex supply ecosystems are expected to contribute significantly to Airbus’s ambitions in India and beyond.
Westermeier’s appointment comes at a time when Airbus is ramping up industrial partnerships, local sourcing, and technology collaboration in India. His experience in digitalization and operational strategy from his early years at BMW is well-aligned with Airbus’s focus on innovation, sustainability, and Make in India initiatives. Based in India, he will spearhead efforts to accelerate Airbus’s regional business development and engagement with key stakeholders.
