Ramesh Babu has taken on a new role as Chief Distribution Officer – Retail at Royal Sundaram General Insurance, based in Chennai. With over 25 years of leadership experience across insurance, distribution, and sales strategy, his appointment reinforces Royal Sundaram’s focus on strengthening retail distribution, partnerships, and sustainable growth across channels.
An entrepreneurial and results-driven leader, Ramesh is known for translating ideas into scalable business models with a strong bottom-line focus. Prior to joining Royal Sundaram, he served as Senior Vice President at Turtlemint, where he worked closely on OEM broking and digital distribution initiatives. His career also includes a significant tenure at Reliance General Insurance, where he led Retail Agency (Motor & Travel) and Motor & Automotive Alliances, driving partner-led growth and high-performing sales teams.
Earlier in his career, Ramesh held leadership roles at Karvy Insurance Repository as Business Head (de facto CEO), where he oversaw insurance repository services and BPO/KPO operations, leveraging technology-led solutions for insurers. His extensive experience at ICICI Lombard across multiple national and zonal leadership roles further shaped his deep expertise in motor, health, travel, auto, and construction insurance verticals.
In his current role, Ramesh will focus on expanding Royal Sundaram’s retail distribution ecosystem, building strong partnerships, mentoring high-performance teams, and driving profitable growth. His proven ability to blend strategy, execution, and relationship-building positions him as a key leader in advancing the company’s retail ambitions in an increasingly digital and competitive insurance landscape.
