Vishal Papertech (India) Ltd has appointed Mr Ajay Gupta as Chief Executive Officer, based in Derabassi, Punjab. In his new role, Ajay Gupta will be responsible for leading the company’s overall operations and shaping its long-term strategic direction, with a sharp focus on strengthening Vishal Papertech (India) Ltd’s position in the Indian paper manufacturing landscape.
At Vishal Papertech (India) Ltd, Ajay Gupta will spearhead the growth of the company’s Coated Duplex Board business. His mandate includes maximising capacity utilisation, driving EBITDA expansion, achieving cost leadership, and reinforcing strong standards of corporate governance, aligning operational excellence with sustainable and profitable growth.
A seasoned pulp & paper professional with 38 years of experience across India and international markets, Ajay Gupta brings deep domain expertise and a proven track record of leadership. Over the course of his career, he has held senior leadership positions across renowned organisations such as Servall Engineering, Trident Group India, Kuantum Papers Ltd, Orient Paper & Industries Limited, Sabah Forest Industries, Sabah, Malaysia, Ballarpur Industries Limited (BILT), and NEPA Limited.
Across these organisations, Ajay Gupta has served in key roles including Director – Business at Servall Engineering, Executive Director, President & COO, Chief Executive Officer, Associate Vice President, Chief General Manager, and Vice President – Operations. Notably, he played a pivotal role in the turnaround of Orient Paper & Industries Limited’s paper business, steering the company from a negative profitability of approximately ₹50 crore per annum until 2014 to achieving EBITDA levels of ₹180 crore by 2018. His leadership experience spans large-scale manufacturing operations, turnaround initiatives, capacity expansion projects, end-to-end plant operations, strategic planning, and operational efficiency across diverse paper manufacturing environments.
Ajay Gupta holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Wood Science and Wood Products / Pulp and Paper Technology from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee. His appointment as CEO is expected to further strengthen Vishal Papertech (India) Ltd’s leadership team and support the company’s ambition to scale operations while maintaining operational discipline and governance excellence.
