Cdr Vikas Sood Joins Artson Limited, A Tata Enterprise, as Chief Operating Officer

Cdr Vikas Sood has joined Artson Limited, a Tata Enterprise, as the Chief Operating Officer, bringing with him a distinguished career spanning the Indian Navy and the Defence manufacturing sector. A seasoned Military Veteran with over 23 years of service in the Indian Navy and nearly seven years at Mahindra Defence Systems Limited (Naval Division), he is recognized for his expertise in Manufacturing, Operations, and Program Management.

During his tenure with the Indian Navy, Cdr Sood spearheaded critical assignments, including commissioning a Destroyer-class ship as Engineer Officer, managing the turnkey installation and commissioning of a Gas Turbine onboard and overseeing the operations and maintenance of diesel engines. His leadership in Program Management and large-scale technical operations cemented his reputation as a trusted authority in engineering and technical operations.


Transitioning to the corporate sector, Cdr Sood held leadership positions as Chief Technical Officer and Plant Head at Mahindra Defence Systems Limited (Naval Division), where he headed a Project-based manufacturing plant. He played a pivotal role in the design, development, and manufacturing of a Marine Electric Winch, a breakthrough innovation that contributed to securing one of the biggest defence projects in the underwater domain for a private company in India. His ability to integrate Design Thinking, Risk Management, and Throughput optimization has been central to his professional journey.


An ardent follower of the Theory of Constraints, Product Lifecycle Management, and Design Thinking, Cdr Sood has consistently driven innovative solutions in both defence and corporate environments. His pursuit of business opportunities, including the development of the Composite Valve, reflects his vision for applying advanced engineering practices to practical challenges.


Academically, Cdr Sood holds a Master of Technology degree from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi and has further enhanced his managerial acumen through a Course in Business Management from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad. He has also trained at Pearl Harbour Shipyard in Shipyard Management. With his diverse experience and proven leadership, his appointment at Artson Limited marks a significant step forward in strengthening the company’s advancing its strategic goals, especially in Ship building sector,  under the Tata Group banner.
