In a landmark move to bolster India’s global leadership in emerging technologies in New Delhi on July 31st 2025, the Government of India has appointed Megha Singh Nandiwal as the country’s first Ambassador of Global Tech Initiatives. This newly created role reflects India’s commitment to shaping the global digital agenda across domains such as Artificial Intelligence, digital public infrastructure, cybersecurity, and ethical technology governance. Ms. Nandiwal will represent India at key international forums, build strategic tech alliances, and drive innovation diplomacy that aligns with India’s vision of inclusive and responsible digital ecosystems.
A seasoned technology strategist with over 18 years of cross-sector experience, Megha Singh Nandiwal has led large-scale transformation programs and advised high-growth digital ventures. Her work sits at the intersection of innovation and impact, combining policy understanding, organizational leadership, and a strong sense of purpose. On her appointment, she shared: “It is an honour to serve as India’s first Ambassador of Global Tech Initiatives. As a nation, we stand at the confluence of scale, innovation, and responsibility. I look forward to working across borders to build a technology future that is inclusive, ethical, and deeply human.”
This appointment positions India alongside a select group of nations with formal tech diplomacy roles, including Denmark, France, the U.S., and Singapore. However, India’s distinct advantage lies in its ability to pair digital public goods like UPI and Aadhaar with grassroots innovation. Ms. Nandiwal’s role signals the rise of India’s “TechPlomacy”—an era where global collaboration, digital trust, and human-centered innovation will define India’s influence on the world stage.
