Umang Sharma has been appointed as Head of Battery Pack at Ashok Leyland, bringing extensive experience across EV and BESS battery systems, product development, manufacturing industrialisation, design quality, and cost optimisation. His expertise spans the complete battery product lifecycle, from architecture and development to validation, certification, and industrialisation.
Prior to joining Ashok Leyland, Umang served as Head of R&D & Engineering at Tata AutoComp Gotion Green Energy Solutions, where he led R&D and engineering for EV and BESS battery platforms while managing a team of 85+ engineers. Earlier, he served as Team Lead Manager – R&D at Exide Energy Solutions Limited and Deputy Manager at Tata Chemicals, building deep expertise in battery pack design, BMS, PDU, energy storage systems, testing, certification, and project execution.
Beyond product development, Umang has contributed to building high-performing teams, strengthening organisational capabilities, establishing robust engineering processes, and fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. His
experience across battery technology and engineering leadership positions him to contribute to Ashok Leyland’s evolving electric mobility and energy solutions journey.
