Dr. Ashutosh Karnatak has been appointed as an Independent Director at Jindal Saw Limited, bringing with him more than 44 years of experience in India’s energy and infrastructure sector. Known for his strong leadership in corporate governance, sustainability, and strategic infrastructure development, Dr. Karnatak’s appointment is expected to further strengthen the company’s board and long-term business vision.
Previously, Dr. Karnatak served as Chairman & Managing Director of GAIL (India) Ltd., where he played a crucial role in the development of India’s National Gas Grid and contributed significantly to the country’s transition toward a gas-based economy. During his tenure, he led several major infrastructure initiatives that enhanced India’s natural gas transmission and distribution network.
Apart from his leadership role at GAIL (India) Ltd., Dr. Karnatak has served on the boards of multiple leading energy and infrastructure organizations. His expertise spans governance, sustainability, project management, and risk oversight, with extensive experience chairing strategic committees across the sector. Following his retirement, he also served as Technical Member (Petroleum & Natural Gas) at Appellate Tribunal for Electricity (APTEL), contributing to regulatory and dispute resolution matters within the energy industry.
Dr. Karnatak’s academic and professional credentials further highlight his expertise across multiple domains. He holds a Post-Doctorate (DBA) in Organizational Maturity in Project Management and a PhD focused on the Asian Gas Grid. His qualifications also include an MTech in Energy Studies from Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, an MBA in Finance, a B.Tech in Electrical Engineering, and a Diploma in Arbitration & Law. Additionally, he is an IPMA Level A Certified Projects Director from Switzerland and has completed executive education programs at Harvard University.
