Suresh Babu has been appointed Business Unit Director – Eye Care at AbbVie in India, marking a significant milestone in his distinguished 25-year career in the pharmaceutical industry. In this new role, he will lead the Eye Care business in India, steering strategy, commercial excellence, and growth initiatives while building high-performing teams to strengthen AbbVie’s market presence.
Suresh joins AbbVie after an impactful and transformative tenure of over two decades with Sanofi, where he consistently delivered profitable performance across diverse leadership roles spanning Sales, Marketing, Commercial Excellence, Project Management, and Business Transformation. Most recently, he served as Business Unit Head – Diabetes, heading India diabetes operations and driving sustained growth, diversification, and partnership-led expansion across the portfolio.
During his leadership journey at Sanofi, Suresh held several pivotal roles, including Head – Renal & Transplants Business Unit, where he successfully revived and accelerated the growth trajectory of the Transplants business. As Head of Business Operations & Support, he led enterprise-wide commercial excellence functions—ranging from sales force effectiveness (SFE) and data analytics to digital & omnichannel transformation, customer insights, training & development, and data privacy—building future-ready operating models aligned to evolving market demands.
Earlier in his career, Suresh made a notable mark in the diabetes therapy space, playing a key role in catapulting Lantus to the second rank in the Indian Pharmaceutical Market (IPM). He led multiple high-impact launches, including insulin delivery devices and digital-first initiatives, positioning India as a center of excellence for innovative mentor-mentee and digital capability-building models within the global organization. His leadership has been recognized through participation in global talent programs such as BOOST in Paris and the Drive Digital & AI program with HEC Paris.
A pharmacy graduate with an Executive Post Graduate Program in General Management from IIM Kozhikode and a PMP-certified project management professional, Suresh Babu brings strategic depth, operational rigor, and a transformative mindset to his new mandate at AbbVie.
